Das Keyboard Model S Professional Mechanical Keyboard Reviews
23 of 23 people found the following review helpful Northgate lives on, August 7, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Das Keyboard Model S Professional Mechanical Keyboard (Personal Computers) Let me say this first of all. If you do not like noisy tactile keyboards this one is not for you. If you have used a IBM model M or one of the old Northgate keyboards you will love this keyboard. I have had computers since the old Heath kits and then bought a Northgate computer with the state of the art Intel processor - a 386DX and with the computer came a Northgate Omni keyboard. I loved it. Thats all thats ledt of that old system. Long tossed but kept keyboard.
The Model S Professional is the keyboard I purchased. It is the one with the lettered keys. They make one without lettering so be sure of what you want. I have had it now for a couple of weeks now. It has the feedback that I like. You know when you press a key, you hear the key-press as well as feel the positive feedback. It seems to be very well made. It is not ergonomic as there are no wrist rests. It is not a media keyboard but I do not use those features anyway. I have owned a Logitech Wave and K350 keyboard... Read more
25 of 26 people found the following review helpful A great keyboard, January 17, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Das Keyboard Model S Professional Mechanical Keyboard (Personal Computers) When I first heard about mechanical keyboards I couldn't believe that someone would spend $100+ on a keyboard. However, after using the Das Keyboard I can see what all the hype is about.
The keys are very responsive and give you great feedback (both audible and tactile) to let you know that keys have been pressed. That being said, this is not a good choice for somewhere where you might be bothering others. Personally, I love the sound that is made on each keystroke and that is one of the reasons I choose this version (instead of the "quiet" version they make).
The keyboard itself feels very sturdy. It is a solid design with a nice glossy finish. It doesn't feel cheap or plasticy like most of the other keyboards I have used.
I have only had the keyboard for a few weeks now, but I know that it is one that will last me for many years to come.

Amazon is unclear as to which model is which. So are all of the reviewers. I'm pretty sure the other one listed by Amazon/JR is actually the "silent" model as it is listed at $6 more, but nobody who reviewed it there noticed this, so I'll just put this review here. I would have ordered from Amazon if this issue were more clear; instead I purchased direct. The Silent has the latest firmware and isn't quite as loud (though it is still plenty loud). It also supposedly has better keys on the silent professional model.
The good: the keyboard is very good. It takes no getting used to; I was immediately much faster than using the standard issue "timex sinclair" chiclet key imac keyboard. It seems sturdy, and I suspect I'll have it a long time. Is it worth it? It certainly is to me. I spend most of my waking hours with my fingers on a keyboard. Me using the junky keyboards that come with modern computers is... Read more
